About the Nursery

Primrose Moth Wildflowers is a micro-nursery located in Orleans, Ontario. Its mission is to help you build a connection with nature by creating a healthy ecosystem in your own community.

What Is a Native Plant?

Native plants are plants that have existed or evolved in a specific region for thousands of years and are adapted to the local climate and soil conditions. This means insects that feed on and pollinate these plants have co-evolved with them. They need each other to survive.

Why the Name Primrose Moth?

As a child, I was fascinated with the creatures that lived in my backyard and my community, from ladybugs and tadpoles to mice and snakes. Once I discovered native plants about four years ago, I was excited to learn about the interconnectedness between plants and wildlife, not only bees, butterflies, and birds, but also ants, flies, wasps, and moths! So I named the nursery after one of those lesser-known pollinators because I think they deserve recognition, too!

How does the store work?

For the first year of business, I will be offering wildflower seedlings that tend to bloom in their first growing season. The native plants can be purchased in three sizes based on the size of the plug tray they are grown in:

small 1 “ x 3”

medium 2’ x 3”

large 2” x 5”

Pick-up is in Orleans. You will be given the location once your online purchase is complete. Pick-up times will be on weekdays and weekday evenings. I do not offer shipping. You will be offered a few different options for pick-up times.

Important:

  • Seedlings will be wrapped in paper and must be planted within 48 hours.

  • Be sure to make the time and space to care for these young, delicate plants before purchasing, as they do not come with a warranty.

  • Keep these plants in the shade and their wrapping paper damp until they are ready to be planted.

I will continue to update you on when the store will open for sales. For now, please enjoy browsing the species that I plan to offer this season.
